What’s Crazier Than A 2,100-HP V12 Supercar? One Built For Rough Roads

Upstart supercar manufacturer Giamaro Automobili revealed its first vehicle, the Katla, along with its outrageous quad-turbo V12 engine. That car alone would be a fitting start to any car company, but Giamaro decided it wanted to reveal one other planned model, too. It’s called the Albor, and it will take everything that’s amazing from the Katla, and lift it up so that it can be applied on just about any terrain.

Taking The Off-Road Sports Car Idea To The Max

Giamaro apparently named the Albor after a volcano on Mars of the same name. The reason, it says, is because the company is “looking beyond Earth to define what does not exist here.” That seems to be a bit of a disservice to the also amazing off-road sports cars from Lamborghini and Porsche, the Huracan Sterrato and the 911 Dakar. But we’ll give Giamaro some credit for giving the Albor more unique styling than those other off-roaders, which are modified versions of existing models. The Albor obviously has a fair bit of ground clearance, and far more than the Katla. The body itself has a taller profile, and from some angles, it almost looks like a squashed rally raid truck. We can dig it.

Giamaro is also going to offer far more performance than either Lamborghini or Porsche have. Under the unique body, the company intends to use all the mechanical bits from the Katla, including the carbon fiber chassis and the quad-turbo V12. The engine displaces 7.0 liters, and at 120-degrees, it’s nearly flat. Output is claimed to be 2,127 horsepower and 1,481 pound-feet of torque. Giamaro also plans to use the 11-speed dual-clutch transmission it’s working on.

We Still Have A Lot To Learn

Unlike the Katla, Giamaro has left out a number of details. The final weight is a mystery, though it will probably be close to the roughly 3,200 pounds of the Katla. While it’s clearly lifted, exact ground clearance hasn’t been given. It will again likely borrow from the Katla and use some version of its adjustable inboard suspension, but likely with major modifications to handle the raised ride height and rougher terrain. It’s also not clear when the vehicle will be available, or for how much. We’re actually not sure whether we’ll ever really know the cost of one of these cars, since it seems the production numbers will be small, and owners will likely get plenty of opportunity to make their examples unique. They’ll most certainly be outrageously expensive, since the company is offering performance in Bugatti and Koenigsegg territory.
