They Drove This 911 Dakar For 909 Miles And Made A Six Figure Payday

  • This Porsche 911 Dakar has a $14,750 Paint to Sample shade of Granite Green Metallic.
  • Power comes from a six-cylinder with 473 hp and 420 lb-ft like the Carrera 4 GTS.
  • The winning bidder previously spent $365,000 on another Porsche 911 Dakar last year

Limited-run performance cars have a strange habit of skipping spirited weekend drives and heading straight to auction blocks. Despite what the automakers might hope, plenty of high-end machines end up in the hands of speculators rather than long-term enthusiasts. Porsche’s special-edition 911s are no exception, and the latest example is this 2024 911 Dakar, which just changed hands after only 909 miles (1,463 km) on the odometer.

Production of the 911 Dakar was capped at just 2,500 examples worldwide, and this car is finished in Granite Green Metallic from the Paint to Sample program, costing a cool $14,750. It also features $900 gloss black brake calipers, special $330 puddle lights, and the $3,650 deviated stitching interior package, bringing the total price up to $243,280. Earlier this week, it sold for $348,500 on Bring a Trailer.

A 911 Built for the Dirt, Parked in a Climate-Controlled Garage

Clearly, wealthy shoppers are very eager to get their hands on the very special, off-road-focused versions of the 911. It’s based on the 911 Carrera 4 GTS, and while it has the same powertrain, delivering 473 hp and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm), Porsche did make some important mechanical upgrades to the car. For example, it sits on bespoke suspension and includes a hydraulic lift system. There are also new 19- and 20-inch wheels clad in Pirelli tires.

Unlike many other 911 Dakars, this one doesn’t feature any outlandish decals, and looks all the better for it. It also continues to rock the OEM roof rack that includes two LED light bars, off-road recovery boards, a Porsche-branded shovel, and carries a pair of jerry cans. It’s well-equipped for all kinds of adventures. However, if it’s like most 911 Dakars, it’ll probably only be driven in urban environments and may never come close to a dusty or dirty trail.

Déjà Vu in the Bid History

Curiously, this is actually the second 911 Dakar the winning bidder has purchased on Bring a Trailer. In February, they paid $365,000 for a 911 Dakar painted in Yachting Blue. And if that weren’t enough, they also tried to sell a Shade Green Metallic example in October 2023. That attempt fell short, with bidding topping out at $355,000 without a sale.

So, while Porsche may hope its rally-inspired 911s get used as intended, the reality is many of these cars are living quieter lives, constantly changing hands at auctions, collecting mileage in triple digits, and doing more financial lifting than off-road climbing.
