During the 2025 Indianapolis 500 race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, an average of around 30,000 hot dogs are consumed by the 330,000 attendees. Oscar Mayer would like to remind viewers at home that they could also be eating hot dogs, so someone at the brand has come up with a brilliant idea: bring all six of the Wienermobiles to the event and have them race each other so it can be streamed on the FOX Sports app before the big race. Just as brilliantly, the event has been dubbed the Wienie 500.
“The Indy 500 marks the unofficial kickoff of summer and the start of hot dog season. As a brand known for sparking smiles in disarmingly delightful ways, it’s only fitting that we bring a race of epic proportions to the Speedway and celebrate a timeless tradition: delicious meats and a little friendly competition to kick off a summer of wieners.”
– Kelsey Rice, Brand Communications Director at Oscar Mayer

An Epic Meat-Up Of The Six Trucks
This will be the first time in over ten years that all six of the touring Wienermobiles have been together. It will also be the first competitive race for the fleet, and each will appear with an all-new look. On top of that, each Wienermobile will represent a different regional dog: the Chi Dog (Midwest), New York Dog (East), Slaw Dog (Southeast), Sonoran Dog (Southwest) Chili Dog (South) and Seattle Dog (Northwest), and the drivers will be decked out in custom racing suits. After the race, there will be a trophy presentation in the ‘Wiener’s Circle’ (Oscar Mayer’s pun, not ours) and a condiment spray instead of the traditional champagne celebration.
Make Your Bets
In a whirl of corporate synergy and cross-marketing, this might be the most American event of the summer. Not only will six Wienermobiles be racing around the Indianapolis track before the 500, but there will also be a free-to-play pool via a popular online sports betting company with a series of race-related questions for fans to answer and compete for a chunk of the $10,000 cash prize. Of course, Oscar Mayer is the ‘Official Hot Dog’ of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Wienie 500 will stream live on Friday, May 23, starting at 11:00 am PT/2:00 pm ET on the Fox Sports app. Although at least one of the Wienermobiles is kitted out with a 300-horsepower, 6.0-liter V8, it’s unlikely they will need this year’s pace car, but it should be entertaining to watch.
