Third Generation Acura NSX Could Arrive In 2027 Atop Honda’s 0 Series Electric Platform

The Acura NSX name may be revived sooner than expected, as, according to a new report, the legendary sports car could arrive as early as 2027 atop Honda’s new all-electric 0 Series platform.

A successor to the NSX, unveiled initially as an affordable answer to Ferrari’s 328 (later the “misstep” 348) at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1989 and followed up by a long-awaited successor in 2016, is expected to be the headline act of a number of new EVs – including crossovers, SUVs and sedans – due to be rolled out on top of the 0 Series architecture, according to a report by CarScoops. While this rollout would likely begin in 2028, a new sports car, likely in concept form, could arrive a year earlier.

Could An All-Electric NSX Arrive in 2027?

Rumors of a new NSX did not stay quiet for long after the second generation’s retirement in 2021. Indeed, speculation started as early as Monterey Car Week in 2023 when Honda unveiled a very NSX-esque ‘Electric Vision’ design study. At the same event one year later, Honda’s global executive vice president of Honda Shinji Aoyama sent the rumor mill into overdrive when he confirmed that a new “sports model” would be introduced “in 2027 or 2028,” and that while Honda “may not call it NSX,” it would be “kind of an NSX type of vehicle.”

How The Acura NSX Went From A V10 To A Hybrid V6

Honda very nearly equipped its second-generation NSX with a howling V10, though it eventually landed with a hybrid V6 instead. This is how.

Though no speculative dates for a reveal were specified, the report posted by CarScoops, using information gleaned by GlobalData, states that plans and development for the may-not-be-called-NSX are still on the table. With Honda pushing its new 0 Series platform hard – including a demonstration run with four-time Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen, and despite recent refocus on PHEVs – using the ‘NSX’ name as a headliner makes perfect sense.

Alongside a new electric sports car, CarScoops reports that the Honda Group is expected to debut a new host of electric SUVs and sedans within the next few years, starting with a facelifted Acura ZDX in 2027 and a redesigned MDX later that year (the latter will likely arrive in showrooms in early 2028, based on Honda’s ‘HA’ platform and powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter hybrid engine). Later in 2028, or potentially down the line in 2029, a successor to the Integra, one of Honda’s three best-selling models in 2024 after the CR-V and the Civic, is expected to arrive.

The second-generation Honda NSX nearly looked very different compared to the model that debuted in 2015.

A facelifted ADX is also expected to be launched in 2028, with, potentially, production of both Acura’s mid-sized crossover and the Honda HR-V, with which it shares a chassis, being moved from its current home in Guanajuato, Mexico, to the United States. This, of course, would be dependent on the Trump administration’s auto tariffs, which have thrown a spanner into the long-term plans for most automakers.
