Ferrari’s First EV Will Reveal Itself In Dribs And Drabs

Ferrari announced as far back as 2021 that it would launch an electric vehicle by the middle of the decade, and now the automaker has confirmed that the highly anticipated model is nearing the end of its long gestation. The model, which will take the form of a sleek SUV not unlike the V12‑powered Purosangue, has been spotted testing with heavy camouflage on multiple occasions, and the automaker’s chief this week revealed when those covers will come off: late next year.

In a conference call held on May 6 to outline Ferrari’s first‑quarter financial results, CEO Benedetto Vigna said the EV will be revealed next spring, with deliveries beginning the following October. As noted by Reuters, this was the first time Ferrari has indicated when customer deliveries of the EV will start.

Patent Activity May Reveal Plans For EV Powertrain

Vigna in February said the EV would be presented during Ferrari’s capital markets day presentation scheduled for October 9, 2025, though he clarified during the earnings call that the “technological heart” of the vehicle will be shown on that date, likely indicating a reveal of the new electric powertrain only. However, he also said the “look and feel of the interior” will be shown early next year, and deliveries will begin in October 2026.

Ferrari hasn’t revealed any details on the vehicle yet, including its name. The automaker has previously referred to it as the Elettrica – Italian for “electric” – though this is thought to be a working name only.

The Ferrari Everyone Will Love To Hate Is Taking Shape

Ferrari needs to make its EVs sound better than this.

However, we may have some clues. Over the years, Ferrari has filed several patents related to EV technology, including a recent one for a three‑motor powertrain featuring various methods of producing an emotional sound – one of the hallmark traits of its ICE lineup. According to photographers, prototypes testing near Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters had sound generators emitting a V8‑like rumble.

We also know production will be handled at the newly constructed e‑building at the Maranello headquarters. Completed last year, the building is already churning out some of Ferrari’s plug‑in hybrid models. It will also house the production of many of the EV’s powertrain components. Staying true to its tradition of in‑house engineering, Ferrari intends to develop and manufacture its own electric motors, inverters, and battery packs, while partnering with external specialists in select areas, such as battery‑cell development. For its plug‑in hybrid models, Ferrari currently sources cells from South Korea’s SK On.

EV Expected To Be One Of The Most Expensive Ferraris

A starting price of over €500,000 (approximately $568,000) is rumored, and to ease potential concerns about battery reliability once the new car warranty ends, Ferrari is expected to offer a paid extended‑warranty program that includes scheduled battery replacements, mirroring the strategy it currently uses for its plug‑in hybrids. The warranty may prove popular, as Ferraris tend to hold value over time and, as a result, owners tend to keep the cars in good working condition.

However, Ferrari typically only chooses the price of a new vehicle a month before launch, and Vigna confirmed that this tradition will continue.

Ferrari said its financials were in good health despite current economic and geopolitical headwinds. The automaker reported a 15% increase in its first‑quarter earnings, up to €693 million ($787 million), and said the effects of the Trump administration’s tariffs would only make a 0.5% dent on its profit margins for 2025.
