These Chinese Trucks Look Like Ford Rejects

  • The two new trucks have a large ‘JMC’ logo plastered across the front.
  • Both turbodiesel and turbo petrol engine options will be offered.

Jianglian Motors, or JMC as it’s commonly known, is preparing to roll out two new pickup trucks for the Chinese market. While these trucks share a lot of similarities, their front-end designs provide a clear visual distinction. They both carry an unmistakable resemblance to smaller versions of Ford F-Series and Ranger Trucks.

Well, if you’re going to borrow from someone, you might as well take it from the best. After all, Ford has been perfecting truck designs for decades, making them some of the best-selling vehicles in the world.

Much like the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ranger Raptor, both JMC models have front grilles dominated by a massive ‘JMC’ emblem. In the fancier-looking model, known as the Tiger, the grille is paired with distinctive headlights with sleek LED DRLs. It is also equipped with a blacked-out bumper incorporating small fog lights and a central piece finished in silver. The second version of the truck has a slightly larger black grille, simpler headlights, and a different bumper.

The rear-end designs of the two models are pretty much identical, with a sports bar in the bed, upright taillights, a black bumper, and a bulging tailgate. The Tiger measures in at 209.5 inches (5,322 mm) long, while the other version is slightly longer at 210 inches (5,335 mm). Both models have rated payload capacities of 495 kg (1,091 lbs), reports Autohome.

Data from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveals both models will be sold with the same 2.5-liter turbodiesel engine. In the Tiger, this engine will be good for 165 hp (123 kW), while the lesser version will be capped at 158 hp (118 kW). It’s understood that a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol will also be available, rated at a slightly more impressive 215 hp (160 kW).

No interior photos have been released at this stage, but we don’t expect either truck to be particularly luxurious, nor overly well-equipped. Pricing details have not been announced, but we can expect to hear more when the two models officially launch on May 21.
