2026 GMC Hummer Will Be Quicker And Crabbier Than Ever

Believe it or not, the GMC Hummer EV is already four years old. The monstrous electric pickup launched for model year 2022, and that means it is time for a refresh. GMC is making the 2026 Hummer EV, both the pickup and SUV, more capable off-road, and it’s even offering a new package that makes the ultra-fast off-roader even quicker.

There are some changes that should make GMC’s flagship electric status symbol more practical every day, as well, including Super Cruise updates and retuned shocks.

King Crab Mode Adds Off-Pavement Agility

King Crab Mode is the attention-getter for the 2026 GMC Hummer EV. When the Hummer EV first launched, it came with Crab Mode, where it could drive diagonally left or right to get you around obstacles. Or make parallel parking a breeze. It also had a special Mystery Mode button on the drive model controller.

That Mystery Mode button will enable the King Crab feature. Instead of moving diagonally, it uses the rear-steering and the torque vectoring system to let the rear wheels run faster than the front wheels. It helps turn the back of the truck in a way that lets it scoot around obstacles and get into and out of tighter places than a normal truck. In the demonstration, GMC shows it doing donuts with the inner front tire almost stationary. This one will be available to every Hummer EV owner through an over-the-air update later this year.

The new Carbon Fiber Edition of both the pickup and SUV will be the quickest one. Visually, it’s distinguished by special 22-inch wheels, carbon mirror caps, and black badges. Performance-wise, its new optimization of the electric system software lets it get from 0-60 in just 2.8 seconds.

For the 1,000-horsepower Hummer EV 3X, that’s two-tenths quicker than the old Wide Open Watts mode. Not a world of difference, but now you can tell everyone you’re under that three-second mark.

Super Cruise, Infotainment, And Suspension Improvements For 2026

Super Cruise, GM’s hands-off driver assist system, now includes what GMC calls Hands-on Lane Change Assist. GMC says this will help make the transition between mapped and unmapped roads easier. It will also include new automatic lane changes to help you stay on route if you have the nav engaged.

Google Built-in adds a new split-screen mode for the Hummer EV this year. It will also allow more entertainment options this year, with apps for download including Amazon Prime Video and GameSnacks.

Last, but certainly not least, GMC has tweaked the Hummer EV’s shock tuning. The automaker says this will improve the ride quality and should make it better on- and off-road.
