Citroen’s New Funky SUV Teases Interior And Electric Features Before Tomorrow’s Debut

The comfort-oriented SUV retains the quirky styling of the concept while integrating the latest tech inside the cabin

Citroen’s New Funky SUV Teases Interior And Electric Features Before Tomorrow’s Debut

  • Citroen will show the production version of the new C5 Aircross SUV on April 29.
  • The model will be available for the first time with a fully electric powertrain.
  • The interior boasts a floating center console with a portrait-oriented infotainment.

Time is almost up for the next-generation Citroen C5 Aircross, which will soon arrive with electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrain options. In typical slow-drip fashion, the French automaker has previewed a few exterior and interior details ahead of the SUV’s global debut on April 29. If you have been waiting for a fresh face from Citroen, this is the one they are putting their hopes on.

We’re already quite familiar with the exterior of the new C5 Aircross thanks to the patent drawings that surfaced online earlier this year. The SUV looks very similar to the concept from 2024, albeit with smaller wheels, regular door handles, and thicker pillars. Interestingly, the production model has retained the protruding LED taillights and the aero wheels of the concept, infusing some French quirkiness into the family hauler.

The real surprise comes inside the cabin. The teaser images reveal a slim floating center console featuring a large portrait-style infotainment screen, neatly paired with a row of physical buttons below it. There is also a sleek-looking drive selector and a digital instrument cluster visible, with a storage area and cupholders tucked in behind the display. Overall, the interior looks clean, modern, and ready to make commuting slightly less of a chore.

Judging from the closely-related Opel Grandland and the smaller Citroen C3 Aircross / Opel Frontera twins, the Citroen C5 Aircross will most likely inherit heavily cushioned “comfort” seats. These will be combined with a Citroen-specific suspension setup, sticking with the comfort-focused recipe of its predecessor. Furthermore, we expect fresh technology features from Stellantis‘ parts bin and a little bit of extra practicality made possible by the slightly larger footprint.

Platform and Powertrain Details

We already know that the C5 Aircross will ride on Stellantis’ STLA Medium architecture, the same platform underpinning the Peugeot 3008/5008, Opel Grandland, and DS No8. It will likely support the upcoming DS No7 too.

These shared bones open the door for a proper electric version of the C5 Aircross, a first for the nameplate. Alongside the EV, there will be mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options, while some markets will still get non-electrified combustion engines, at least for now.

Review: Here’s Why I Bought A Citroen C5 Aircross As A Family Hauler

With the C5X fastback crossover on the way out once the current generation wraps up, the C5 Aircross is set to take over as Citroen’s flagship model. It is a logical, if not thrilling, evolution for the brand as it doubles down on practicality, comfort, and now, electrification.

All the remaining details will drop during the “Citroen Electric Show” event on April 29, with the full-electric version expected to take center stage. Stay tuned, because if Citroen’s teasers are any indication, the new C5 Aircross might actually be worth a second look.
