- Five custom cars from West Coast Customs are headed to Mecum’s auction block soon.
- One of the wild vehicles is a Polaris Slingshot inspired by the Star Trek: Discovery series.
- The Darth Vader-inspired Passat features Asanti wheels and a unique circular sunroof.
If you’ve ever wanted a car touched by the same people who once stuffed fish tanks and Xboxes into clapped-out Civics, now’s your chance. The man behind West Coast Customs, one of America’s most recognizable custom car shops, is auctioning off a handful of vehicles from his personal collection through Mecum Auctions.
Ryan Friedlinghaus is parting ways with a Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Camry, Dodge Charger, VW Passat, and a Polaris Slingshot.

West Coast Customs became a household name across the United States in the early 2000s thanks to MTV’s Pimp My Ride, and Freidlinghaus was an important character in the reality show. WCC quickly built a name for itself for weird, wacky, and wonderful car transformations. The funds raised from the sale of all five cars will benefit the West Coast Customers Academy, a non-profit organization that educates young people in the custom auto industry.
One of the most unusual vehicles in the group is a 2018 Polaris Slingshot. Built for Star Trek: Discovery, the three-wheeler is far from subtle. The hood features a large, custom-made disc inspired by the U.S.S. Discovery. As a daily driver, it probably wouldn’t be your first pick, but as a showpiece, it definitely stands out.
The 1997 Toyota 4Runner that’ll be up for grabs is also quite the head-turner. It was built by West Coast Customs Academy’s class of 2024 and has a one-off flame and pin-stripped blue paint scheme. It also sits on air suspension and 18-inch wheels.
A customized 2022 Toyota Camry is also being sold. It takes inspiration from NASCAR and has a bolt-on aero kit and adjustable coilovers. No work has been done on the 3.5-liter V6 engine. The 2006 Dodge Charger being sold is relatively sedate by WCC standards and is inspired by the iconic General Lee Charger from The Dukes of Hazzard. The four-door sedan was transformed into a two-door, and its wheelbase was shortened by 8 inches. It also has the iconic bright orange paint scheme of the film car.
Rounding out the collection is a 2012 Volkswagen Passat themed around Star Wars and Darth Vader. It sits on Asanti wheels and features a custom front grille. Its most unusual detail might be the circular glass sunroof, which gives the otherwise tame sedan a futuristic edge.
All five vehicles are heading to Mecum Auctions, where they’ll likely find homes with fans of custom cars, pop culture, or both.
