Land Rover Defender Gets More Luxury, New Seats, And Special Sedona Edition Trim

Key Takeaways

  • Land Rover introduces new updates for the Defender, including Sedona Edition trim and new packages.
  • The Sedona Edition receives special red paintwork, 22-inch wheels, black accents, plusher materials, and optional model-specific decals.
  • Second-row captain’s chairs now available for the Defender 130.

Land Rover has announced model year updates for the Defender lineup, which receives updated features, more luxurious interior materials, and a special Sedona Edition for the 110 body style. There are also new engine choices. Aside from that, the styling remains the same, which should please Defender loyalists. Let’s start with the 110 Sedona Edition, only available for one year.

Inspired by the Arizona city after which it is named, the Defender receives special Sedona Red paintwork paired with an Extended Black Pack, 22-inch Gloss Black wheels, and a body-colored spare wheel cover. The Defender badging, front grille, and skid plates are also finished in black. The Sedona Edition can be specified with an optional hood decal of Sedona’s topography. A color-matched gear carrier is also available. This is one of several special editions from the automaker, such as the Range Rover SV Arete Edition.

New Signature Interior Pack

The interior specification is based on the plush Defender X-Dynamic HSE. The Sedona’s seats can be trimmed in Ebony Windsor leather or Kvadrat upholstery. Speaking of the seats, they are part of the new Signature Interior Pack, which introduces upmarket materials and more storage for front-row passengers, among other things. The package offers plenty of luxury for the off-roader, available on the Defender X and V8 (and optional on Dynamic HSE trims).

For a start, the front row receives 14-way power-adjustable seats with heating/cooling and memory settings. There are also new winged headrests that offer more support. The second row also receives heating and cooling functionality, with 110 and 130 models receiving winged headrests in the second row. Passengers in the third row aren’t left out, with standard heated seats.

Fancier Interior Trim, Upholstery, And Accents

Land Rover has also upgraded interior materials within the Defender’s cabin, with Windsor Leather and Kvadrat seating in Ebony or Caraway/Ebony. New Ultrafabrics are also available. There are also plusher accents throughout the cabin, while the driver and front passenger receive center console side pockets. The interior also benefits from chrome and metallic gray powder-coated accents and a Light Cloud or Ebony suedecloth headliner.

Customers will be allowed to configure their twin-turbo V8 special editions before the rest of the world even sees them. Here’s how to order.

Defender 130 trims are now available with new captain’s chairs in the second row. This provides greater access to the third row of seats and enhances comfort for passengers in the middle row. Both seats receive individual armrests and twin cupholders, while winged headrests are offered as an option. This is standard on the X Dynamic HSE with the Signature Interior Pack and X and V8 models.

New Diesel Engine And Available Packages

The six-cylinder turbodiesel in the D300 has been blessed with more power and is now called the D350 to reflect this. Now offering 345 hp (up from 296 hp), the silky-smooth motor provides 516 lb-ft of torque, ideal for off-road adventures requiring a mix of performance, luxury, and excellent gas mileage. Sadly, this motor is unlikely to make its way to the United States, and pricing is yet to be released. An electric Defender is expected to arrive next year.

Land Rover hasn’t announced local pricing for the updated Defender, but we expect an announcement to arrive shortly. Aside from cold climate and towing packages, there are several packages for customers to choose from:

  • Off-Road Pack: Electronic Active Differential, all-terrain tires, Wade Sensing, black-painted roof rails, and a domestic plug socket.
  • Advanced Off-Road Pack: Terrain Response 2, Configurable Terrain Response, All Terrain Progress Control, Electronic Air Suspension, Automatic Headlight Leveling, and Adaptive Dynamics.
  • Dynamic Handling Pack: Adaptive Dynamics, 20-inch full-size spare wheel, Electronic Active Differential, Electronic Air Suspension, and Automatic Headlight Leveling.
  • Air Suspension Pack: Adaptive Dynamics, Electronic Air Suspension, and Automatic Headlight Leveling.
  • Driver Assist Pack: Blind Spot Assist, Rear Collision Monitor, and Rear Traffic Monitor.
