China’s GAC Motor used the backdrop of the Shanghai Auto Show (Auto Shanghai 2025) to unveil a bold pickup truck concept that looks to take styling cues from two of America’s most eye-popping designs: the Tesla Cybertruck and GMC Hummer EV Pickup.

China Still Isn’t Done Copying Rolls-Royce, But At This Price, Who Cares?
And it will apparently do the 60 mph sprint in just 3 seconds!
GAC calls the look a “sci-tech aesthetic,” and while definitely futuristic in appearance, there are multiple elements borrowed from existing vehicles.
The Name Is Far From Imaginative, But That Can Be Fixed If It Reaches Production
The dual-cab electric pickup’s simple, silver body panels contrasted with blocky, black-finished wheel arches give it a similar look to what you find on the Cybertruck. There was no mention of the body being stainless steel, though.
The slit-like headlights joined by a light bar at the front, meanwhile, have been clearly inspired by the Hummer EV design. The lower front bumper with an integrated skid plate is also similar to the GMC’s design.

2025 Electric Pickup Truck Comparison: Tesla Cybertruck Vs. Ford F-150 Lightning
Now that both electric pickups have been on sale for a while, which one comes out on top?
GAC didn’t say whether the concept, dubbed the Pickup 01, is destined for production, but the company gave some hints. It said the concept is the first vehicle developed under a strategy aimed at transforming GAC Commercial Vehicles’ normally utilitarian vehicles into something more premium and fitted with the latest technology, and thus combines traditional truck-like capability with passenger vehicle design and quality.
New Platform With Flexible Powertrains
Among the new technologies is a platform called GAIA (GAC Adaptive Intelligent Architecture), which features adjustable suspension and can accommodate powertrains designed for urban, off-road, and towing situations. There are rumors suggesting some of the powertrains the platform will support will feature plug-in hybrid setups, which would be ideal for towing – unlike fully electric powertrains, which quickly lose range when hauling heavy loads.
The concept also introduces GAC’s own suite of electronic driver-assist features, called X-SouL Safety Shield. Additional details, including the interior design, will be revealed at a later date, GAC said.
The Pickup 01 was developed by GAC’s division aimed at businesses, GAC Commercial Vehicles. The division is gearing up to follow GAC’s passenger vehicle brands into markets beyond China, starting as soon as this year with Australia, Chile, and Saudi Arabia.

How A Top Chinese Automaker Made Fools Out Of The Entire Automotive Industry
A large Chinese automotive brand has introduced a brand-new V8 engine in 2025…
It’s too soon to know how good the brand might be, but if it can find success in those markets, we wouldn’t be surprised if these new cars made their way to Europe in the not-too-distant future. Given the steep tariffs the U.S. has placed on Chinese imports during both the current administration and the previous, there’s almost no chance we’ll see the brand here.
