Alfa Romeo may not be the automotive powerhouse it once was, but the automaker is one of the oldest still in existence, dating back to 1910, with its founding in Milan, Italy. That makes Alfa Romeo 115 years old (the actual day of the founding is June 24), and the automaker is celebrating with a special commemorative logo. Cars like the 33 Stradale prove it still has strong ambitions for the future, but heritage is a critical ingredient in the brand’s allure, too.
Alfa Romeo
Originally founded in 1910 as Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili (A.L.F.A.), Alfa Romeo is an Italian automaker of some renown, having been the brand where Enzo Ferrari plied his trade as a racer and racing manager. Alfa Romeo was formalized in 1920 and became a strong force in motorsport and sporty luxury vehicles, becoming the first F1 Constructors’ Champions in 1950. After changing hands on more than a few occasions over the last 50 years, Alfa Romeo is now under the ownership of Stellantis.

The new logo features the famous Biscione snake found on Alfa Romeo’s badge, here intertwined with a “115” script. The script is stylized with an ascending diagonal to symbolize momentum and the drive for innovation, which Alfa Romeo says represent some of its core values.
The Biscione snake was taken from the coat of arms of the Visconti family, who ruled Milan in the 13th century. It features on Alfa Romeo’s badge together with a red cross, which comes from Milan’s flag. Other Alfa Romeo symbols include the Quadrifoglio, or four-leaf clover, which Alfa Romeo reserves for its top performance cars and celebrated its own centenary just two years ago.
Global Celebrations Planned
Alfa Romeo and its various clubs around the globe plan to celebrate the anniversary at events throughout the year, and the latest logo will be prominent at many of these. Alfa Romeo said the logo will also appear on various merchandise, though the automaker hasn’t said if it will feature on any of its cars built this year.

Future Looks Bright
Alfa Romeo’s current fleet may be getting long in the tooth, but new products are on the way. Next-generation versions of the Stelvio compact crossover and Giulia compact sedan debut in 2025 and 2026, respectively, and are set to offer the choice of electric and gas powertrains, though the latter will likely be electrified in some way.
